Fruity Recipes for a Fresh ‘n’ Juicy Christmas
Every year leading up to Christmas, we stress and put pressure on ourselves thinking about how to impress our guests on Christmas day. The best kind of dish is one you’re able to prepare in advance which leaves you more time to spend creating memories with your loved ones. Often the simplest plates will be the biggest hit among family and friends.
Being aware of what fruits are in season in Australia will benefit your taste buds AND the environment. In-season fruit not only supports our local Australian farmers, but the fruit has travelled less kilometres to get from the farm to your plate which benefits the environment and also means your fruit is fresher AND more delicious!
Around 25% of your grocery shop will end up going into landfill. Australian homes are notoriously wasteful and we should all be more conscious to avoid over-purchasing to minimise waste as much as possible. Fruit is super easy to prepare and very easy to graze on throughout the day – hopefully meaning less food being thrown out! Maintaining our health around the holidays is super important to begin 2022 feeling better than ever. Keeping our fruit intake up will ensure your immune system is working at its peak and providing you with enough energy to survive the holiday season.
Because we understand how stressful Christmas day can be when you’re juggling a million things at once, we have developed some easy dishes made completely from in-season fruits in Australia during summer which are very easy to prepare and have a lovely little touch of Christmas. Your guests will LOVE having some fresh fruit to break up the big meals at holiday celebrations plus making fruit fun for any little ones.
- GRINCH GRAPES
You will need:
- Toothpicks
- Green grapes
- Strawberries
- Banana
Start by thinly slicing the banana (this will make the brim of a Santa hat) and cut some banana into small chunks to make the pom pom. Thread a green grape onto the toothpick and ensure it sits at the bottom (this will be the Grinch’s head), place the thinly sliced banana on top, next slide on a strawberry with the widest part on first. Lastly, add a small chunk of banana to be the pom pom on top of the Santa hat.
- RAINBOW NORTH POLES
You will need:
- Strawberries
- Raspberries
- Peach
- Rockmelon
- Banana
- Pineapple
- Green grapes
- Purple/red grapes
- Blackberries
- Long skewers
Cut the peach, rockmelon, banana and pineapple into small chunks and wash the berries under water. The chunks don’t have to be perfect, just ensure you’re able to use the most amount of fruit to limit the waste thrown away. You can arrange the fruits on the skewer in whatever order you like, however for our perfect rainbow we did the following: strawberry, raspberry, peach, rockmelon, banana, pineapple, green grape, purple/red grape then the blackberry last.
These skewers in the middle of your Christmas table will be super eye catching but also taste DELISH! By eating fruits of many different colours, you will be consuming various vitamins, minerals and antioxidants – which is important to maintain your health around the holiday period!
- FRUITY CANE
You will need:
- Banana
- Strawberries
Cut the banana and strawberries into even slices. Start aligning the banana and strawberry slices alternating with each one to make the same pattern and shape as a candy cane. You can make as many of these as you like and scatter around your table.
- ZESTY C FOR CHRISSY
You will need:
- Zesty C Protect Beauty Water from our Collagen Pantry® range (this can be swapped for any of our delish functional powders that you enjoy)
- Ice cubes
- Raspberries
- Blueberries
- Strawberries
- Lemon slices
- Mint
Add 1 teaspoon of Zesty C Protect Beauty Water into a glass of cold water, stir to combine. Add ice cubes, a few of each of the berries, a lemon slice and some mint. This is a delicious and super easy non-alcoholic drink to enjoy on a hot Christmas day! The berries will add a fruity and fresh twist to compliment the gorgeous taste of our Zesty C! For those hotter days, feel free to add Zesty C to ice and blend for a yummy slushy with added fruit.
