Hack Your Body with Biohacking – No Cheat Code Needed

You may not have heard the term biohacking before, but you’ve most likely tried doing it. You don’t need to be an IT expert to crack this code. Biohacking, also known as DIY biology, is basically a form of biology manipulation to optimise your brain and body’s performance. If you drink coffee – you’re biohacking, because when you think about it you’re using the caffeine to stimulate yourself and wake up. This shows us just how much what we put in our bodies can influence the way we feel. Another example of bio hacking is the effect of what we listen to and its ability to alter the way we feel – if you listen to sad music, you feel sad, if you listen to happy upbeat music, you feel like dancing.

The term biohacking is so broad and constantly evolving, it can range from large hacks such as cryotherapy, where you expose your body to extreme cold temperatures which claims to improve energy, mood, decrease inflammation and so much more, to smaller everyday hacks like changing up your diet. We want to help you hack into your best self and get ‘more out of life’ with these simple biohacks you can incorporate now. Like, right now.

Sun Exposure

Step outside and soak up some rays – see, we told you that you could do it right now (unless you’re reading this at night, of course). That shining ball in the sky is so essential for our well being as it generates and produces vitamin D, supports bone health and our immune system, lowers blood pressure, improves mental health, and so much more.

Music/Frequencies

Our brains have 100 billion neurons that communicate with each other through small electrical currents. When these neurons are all activated together they produce electrical pulses which are what we call ‘brain waves’.

Brainwave frequencies:

Beta (14–30 Hz): conscious, focused, vigilant. We primarily spend most of the day here.

Alpha (8–14 Hz): meditative state, awake but tranquil, the grey area between sleep and waking, better memory recall.

Theta (4–8 Hz): light dreaming, ability to access to unconscious mind.

Delta (0.1–4 Hz): deep dreamless sleep, restorative, total loss of awareness.

Now you know a little bit of science behind how frequencies effect the brain, it may make more sense to you why certain music and sounds can trigger different emotions. So chuck on some upbeat music and go for a walk in that beautiful sunshine!

Meditation

Studies have shown the average person has more than 6000 thoughts per day! Not enough of us take time to slow down, tune out all the noise in our heads and just breathe. Meditation is the practice of training your mind to focus, redirect your thoughts and simply be in the present. The mind literally influences our whole state of being, so no wonder meditation is such a powerful tool to hack into our true potential. It can help reduce stress, anxiety and depression, promote emotional health, enhance self-awareness and increase focus. If you can spare 5-10 minutes a day, we highly recommend giving this a go.
