The Superfood Popcorn Combination You Didn't See Coming
Oh. My. Gosh. Prepare to become obsessed with our new favourite snack! I bet you would never expect to see the words Spirulina & popcorn in the same sentence?! This recipe is deliciously savoury, smokey and satisfying; every bite just hits the spot!
Ok, we’re not going to lie, we were a bit taken a back when we came across a spirulina popcorn recipe on Goop, but we thought we would give it the benefit of the doubt and try our own version. Don't knock it 'til you try it, right?
Featuring ‘King of the Supergreens’; Spirulina, along with spices and nutritional yeast, this snack is all natural, gluten free and vegan! Our Spirulina is certified organic and boasts an abundance of beneficial properties. Spirulina is perfect for vegetarians and vegans as it packs in 14% of your daily recommended intake of iron in just 1 tsp!! Spirulina is 70.9% protein and contains the amazing plant pigment chlorophyll plus antioxidants such as Betacarotene and Phycocyanin.
Super easy to whip up, all you’re going to need is ¼ of corn kernels (make sure you get the natural corn kernels without the added butter etc). ¼ cup of the corn kernels will make just over 1 cup of popped popcorn!
Once you’ve added the olive oil into a saucepan, you can add in your corn kernels then the fun begins! Make sure you have the lid on nice and secure as you’re going to have popcorn popping all over the show- as fun as that sounds!!!
When the majority of your corn kernels have popped, transfer them into a large bowl then add the olive oil and remaining ingredients. Toss the mixture to ensure the seasonings and spices are incorporated well. Now time to put on your favourite movie, sit back and relax knowing that you are enjoying the most delicious and healthiest popcorn EVER!
SMOKEY SPIRULINA POPCORN
PREP & COOK TIME: 10 mins
MAKES: 1.5 cups popped popcorn
INGREDIENTS
¼ cup corn kernels
4 tbsp olive oil
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp Morlife Certified Organic Spirulina Powder
3 tbsp nutritional yeast
½ tbsp sea salt
½ tbsp smoked paprika
STEP BY STEP
- Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a pan and add the corn kernels, ensuring the lid is on. Once majority of the kernels have popped, turn the heat off and leave the lid on.
- Combine 3 tbsp olive oil with remaining ingredients in a large bowl then add popcorn. Using 2 spoons, toss the popcorn ensuring that the seasonings and spices are incorporated well and your popcorn is coated.
