Organic Maca Powder — Pleasant and Beneficial

Maca is available as capsules or a liquid extract but is more often dried and ground into a powder form. It’s thought by many to have a malty caramel or earthy and nutty taste, which most people find extremely pleasant. The main question, however, is whether it’s beneficial to you.

Being plant-based, maca is suitable for vegans and is packed full of minerals, vitamins and nutrients. One teaspoon a day (about five grams) will provide for most people about 25% of the recommended daily input of vitamin C, over 15% of copper, 5% of iron, 3% of potassium and vitamin B6, and 2% of manganese.

What does it Contain and Is It Any Good?

Whilst this is a reasonable daily dose to start with, we recommend building up to double that amount twice a day. You can, therefore, use maca powder to provide large proportions of the vitamins and minerals you need. This dosage will also give you significant amounts of calcium, selenium, iodine, carbohydrates, protein and fibre that will help your overall health.

We don’t advise anyone to exceed this daily dose and recommend those with thyroid problems and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding to seek medical advice before using maca. For everyone else, however, the product can have significant benefits.

Besides being very nutritious and a good source of minerals and vitamins, maca is often marketed as being able to improve sex drive and enhance male fertility. It was used by Inca warriors before battle to enhance stamina and is still popular as a supplement for athletes to help them gain strength, increase muscle and improve overall performance.

Some studies have shown reduced blood pressure and improvements in learning and memory after using maca while its glucosinolates content is thought to support prostate health. It’s particularly useful for menopausal women to counter their reduction in estrogen levels, helping to reduce the incidence of hot flushes and interrupted sleep, alleviating anxiety and depression, and improving overall mood. It can also protect bone health, with osteoporosis being a particular threat for women after the menopause.

How Organic Maca Powder from Australia Will Improve Your Health

If you have any of the problems or symptoms mentioned previously, maca powder will improve them. Our recommended maximum daily dose will provide almost 40% of the recommended daily allowance of iron for men and women over fifty years old and around half of that for women up to fifty. It also provides a similar amount of copper, which is necessary for the production of haemoglobin and red and white blood cells.

It’s a pleasant, tasty powder and can be added to smoothies, dessert, breakfast cereals and a host of other foods. This makes for a very palatable as well as a healthy source of useful supplements.
