Take Charge of Your New Year's Resolutions

Every year, we set ambitious resolutions for ourselves that almost always fizzle out around the two week mark. This leaves us feeling disappointed in ourselves with the misguided assumption that we must wait a whole 12 months before trying again. But it doesn’t have to be this way if you set clear and realistic goals with a doable game plan. Whether you’re looking to get into shape, learn an instrument or master the art of soap carving, here are our top tips to help you stick to your guns and make yourself proud in 2021.

First things first, make yourself a vision board. You can do this digitally, or the old school way using some glue and a stack of magazines. We encourage this activity as it helps to visualize the goals you have in your mind. Keep your board somewhere where you’ll see it every day so you can remind yourself of what’s important and where you’d like to be.

Set smaller goals to help you achieve your bigger goals. This breaks down the process into manageable, bite-sized pieces that seem less daunting and more achievable. Remember, failing to plan is planning to fail, so ensure you have a clear game plan in place.

Tell someone about your goals and ask them to check in on your progress frequently - this person will be your designated accountability buddy. You will be more likely to stick to your guns when you have someone holding you to your word and you will thank them later for keeping you in check.

But most importantly, be nice to yourself. If you slip up one day, it doesn’t mean you should give up entirely. You just need to try again tomorrow. If you dropped your phone on the ground and cracked the screen, you wouldn’t continue to smash it up, would you? No, you’d pick it up and try to mend the existing damage. This same mentality should be applied to your resolutions. Let’s say your goal was to eat healthier, and then you had a donut after 2 weeks of clean eating. That doesn’t mean your resolution is ruined and you should proceed to binge on absolutely everything, it just means you’re human. Slip ups happen and you should simply accept them and keep moving forward.

  • Eat clean

Make a conscious effort to consume more fruits and veggies, and opt for organic where possible. It's time to experience the knock-on effect of good nutrition.

  • Drink more water

Increasing your daily water intake is paramount to achieving wellness. If you are someone who struggles to stay hydrated or finds water bland and boring, our Beauty Water is just the thing for you!

  • Start your morning with yoga

Nothing compares to the complete and utter bliss of a morning yoga session and the calm tone it sets for the day. Get out of bed and straight into downward dog, it’s time to get your Zen on!

  • Practice gratitude

Just like yoga, practicing gratitude has a powerful effect on our mood. The best part is it’s really easy to do too! In a notebook, or even in the notes app on your phone (whatever floats your boat), right down 5 things you are grateful for, no matter how small. This could be your best friends, your family, a friendly bus driver you had, the meal your partner cooked you, the roof over your head, anything! Jotting these things down helps you take notice and appreciate the blessings in your life. Even on bad days, taking the time to recognize the good can help put things into perspective and you may even realise things aren't as bad as you thought!
